Marriage License

Need a copy of your marriage license?

If you obtained your marriage license from Warren County, the record will be kept in our office. If you are local, you may come in during business hours to obtain a copy. A certified copy is $5. If you live in another state or are unable to come in to the office, you may call us at (270) 842-9416 to receive a copy via mail. Additional fees will apply.

Obtaining A Marriage License

After reviewing the below information you may fill out an application and bring to our office to obtain your license.

Requirements

  • Both parties must be present
  • Must have valid identification
  • Must be 18 or older
  • Must be getting married in the state of Kentucky
  • Must be getting married in the next 30 days

Acceptable Identification

  • Copy of a birth record
  • Certification of birth issued by another state
  • Baptismal record showing individual’s date of birth
  • Passport
  • Driver’s License
  • Government or school issued identification card showing date of birth
  • Immigration record showing date of birth
  • Naturalization record showing date of birth
  • Court record of any other document or record issued by a government entity showing date of birth

Important Notes

  • The county clerk’s office does not have an on-staff officiant to perform marriages. A list of local officiants can be picked up in our office upon request.
  • Once issued, a marriage license is valid for 30 days, including the date it is issued. The marriage ceremony must take place within this 30-day period. If the license expires before the ceremony is performed, a new marriage license must be obtained.
  • Applicants only have to bring their form of identification but there are a few pieces of personal information that they will need to know:
    • Mother’s MAIDEN name
    • Applicant’s place of birth
  • When purchasing your marriage license please proofread and make sure that all of the information is correct and there are no typographic errors. Once the license has been filed and recorded making any changes will cost an additional $60 and applicants must go through the marriage amendment process.
