Register to Vote

Eligible persons may use the KY Voter Information Portal to register online.

Eligible persons may register in person at the following locations:

• State-funded offices serving those with disabilities

In Kentucky, voter registration closes 29 days before every election. To be eligible to vote in an upcoming election, all new voter registrations and transfers between counties must be completed by the registration deadline.

All voters are encouraged to verify that their voter registration information is accurate before every election. While name changes and address changes within Warren County can still be completed at your voting location before you vote, updating your information before the registration deadline will help speed up the check-in process on Election Day.

Voters may submit a voter registration application or update at any time. However, applications received during the 29-day closed registration period will be held and processed after the registration books reopen following the election.

If you move to a different address within Warren County, your new address may place you in a different precinct, which could change the ballot face you receive.

To ensure you receive the correct ballot and to help expedite the voting process, update your voter registration before the voter registration deadline, which is 29 days prior to the election.

If you wait to update your address until you arrive at a Vote Center, election officers can assist you, but additional paperwork will be required before you are issued a ballot.

If you move to Warren County, you must update your voter registration to your new Warren County address before the voter registration deadline (29 days prior to an election) to be eligible to vote in Warren County. Your voter registration does not transfer automatically when you move. To avoid any issues on Election Day, be sure to update your registration and verify that the transfer has been completed before the registration deadline.

If you move to Warren County during the 29-day voter registration “closed books” period before Election Day, you are not eligible to register in Warren County for that election. Instead, Kentucky law allows you to return to your previous county of registration one final time to vote in the current election, provided you were otherwise eligible to vote there.

After the election, you should update your voter registration to your new Warren County address so you are eligible to vote in future elections.

Kentucky has a closed primary election system. To vote in a political party’s primary election, you must be registered with that party.

The deadline to change your political affiliation and remain eligible to vote in a party’s May primary election is December 31 of the year preceding the primary election. If you change your party affiliation between January 1 and the date of the primary election, you will not be eligible to vote in that party’s primary.

During a Primary Election, voters may vote only for candidates of the political party with which they are registered, along with any nonpartisan candidates or ballot questions that may appear on their ballot. Nonpartisan primaries are very rare in Warren County.

During a General Election, all registered voters may vote for candidates of any political party, regardless of their own party affiliation.

Kentucky law allows 17-year-olds who meet all other voter eligibility requirements to register to vote and participate in a Primary Election. A 17-year-old who will turn 18 years old on or before the date of the next General Election is eligible to register and vote in the Primary Election held before that General Election.

Eligible 17-year-olds must complete their voter registration by the applicable registration deadline in order to participate in the Primary Election.
